As many of you know, at the beginning of April my wife and I tragically and unexpectedly lost our youngest of three kids, Carson Isaiah. I can only begin to express to you how much the thoughts, prayers, support, and financial contributions mean to our family! I still can’t believe we raised over $35k toward Carson’s fund for the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Truly honoring and humbling. I could easily write a blog post filled with all the encouragement we’ve received, and have been using Facebook as my public ‘outlet’ for processing this very abrupt personal change in our lives.

One of the biggest blessings to our family was from my team and family at Entisys360. My management have been overwhelmingly understanding and gracious with my leave of absence, allowing me to be at home with my family to process, adjust, and heal from this tragedy. I’m incredibly grateful, and I know my family is too!

In four months, I’ve had lots of time to evaluate and focused on what’s important in my life.

Faith. Family. Friendships. Community. Fitness. Health. Finances. Work.

With my refocused energy, I am excited to return to work early August. If you have missed my regular blogging or our End User Computing Podcast, you will be happy to know those will both be returning to their previous schedule. With one slight change…

Closing a chapter is always hard, but hope and anticipation comes from writing a new chapter. That being said, I am happy to announce that my technology related blog posts will have a new residency under my personal domain: tech.daneyoung.com. You can find a link directly from my homepage, daneyoung.com.

In the future this will allow me to create additional subsites as desired, focused on some of my other interests, like CrossFit or Paleo / Whole30.

ITVCE.com will continue to be hosted online and you can find all the archive blog posts. New content that I create will be posted to my personal blog site first. I will continue to use ITVCE.com as an aggregation point and platform for colleagues and budding bloggers to dip their toes in, without investing time and energy into standing up their own domain or hosting site.

Community

One last word before I close out, about community. If you’re reading this blog post, you are part of my online community, and I’m very thankful for your support! I think community is one of the things that makes working in this niche of IT so meaningful to me, and ultimately inspires me to continue to contribute. The End User Computing community is by far the best I have personally experienced in my time in IT. Brian, Gabe, Jack, and the team at Tech Target have modeled this incredibly well, and created a culture for people to thrive, whether they’re just getting started, veterans, or godfathers of this space.

As a last minute surprise to my friends, I booked my travel and am in Boston this week for the 20th and Final BriForum conference. I am really excited to see friends, reconnect with colleagues, and show my appreciation for such a great community. Brian, we have nothing but the best of wishes for you, as you move on from 20 years in IT and discover what’s next! Thanks for the contributions you’ve made over the years, and the community you’ve played a big part in creating.

If you’re in Boston and want to connect, send me a Twitter DM! Would love to meet or catch up. Otherwise, feel free to leave a comment below.

Thanks!
